Neckarsulm celebrates the anniversary of city cycling in heat and fun!
On June 28, 2025, Neckarsulm celebrated the tenth city cycling event in the Heilbronn district. Over 200 enthusiastic cyclists gathered in brilliant weather and numerous events to celebrate the special event. The organization was a complete success and interest in sustainable mobility remains unbroken.
A special highlight of the final party was the mobile bicycle wash, which was very popular. A safety check for bicycles was also available, which was well received by visitors. Nostalgia arose when riding a penny farthing, a format that attracted numerous onlookers. Incidentally, most of those present arrived by bicycle, in the spirit of sustainability and the promotion of cycling.
Diverse offers for young and old
What is a festival without fun activities? Soap carriage rides were organized for the little visitors, which were a lot of fun. There was also an information stand dealing with the topic of sustainable mobility. Anyone who wanted to find out more about the switch from motorized private transport to cycling could find out more here. Experts agree: In metropolitan areas, up to 30% of car journeys could be made by bicycle, which not only relieves traffic but also makes a significant contribution to the environment. Cycling is not only environmentally friendly, but also has numerous health benefits, as the Federal Environment Agency emphasizes.
Cycling is increasingly becoming a lifestyle trend, which is reflected in the large number of participants in city cycling. Positive infrastructure and an appealing image are crucial for increasing bicycle use. In cities like Copenhagen and Amsterdam, the share of cycling has already risen to over 39%, while motorized individual transport in Münster is only 29%. This clearly shows how important it is to promote cycling.
The benefits of cycling
Cycling not only helps reduce air pollutants, but also helps to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For every person who cycles in major German cities, over 365 kg of CO2 emissions can be saved annually. The bicycle is also a space saver compared to a car: a car parking space can hold up to eight bicycles.
The cost of using a bicycle is around 10 cents per kilometer, while the cost of a car is between 21 and 218 cents per kilometer. This means that bicycles are not only a financially wise decision, but also a benefit for the environment and the quality of life in our cities. And that is the big goal: to thoroughly rethink traffic in cities and put it on a more environmentally conscious course.
