Student exchange between Müllheim and Poland: friendships for life
The encounter between students from different countries is always something special. 15 students and two teachers from Rabka-Zdrój, Poland, have currently visited the Markgräfler Gymnasium Müllheim. This student exchange, which promotes relations with Poland, an important European neighbor, fully demonstrates how education and culture can build bridges. The Black Forest Messenger reports on numerous activities that made the exchange an unforgettable experience.
The Polish guests were warmly welcomed into their families by their German exchange partners from the eleventh grade. In addition to school life, the program also included cultural and leisure activities: a workshop prepared the students for a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which further enhanced the exchange.
Insights and experiences
A highlight was the city tour through Müllheim, which was lovingly organized by the hosts. The exhibition “Müllheim in National Socialism” was also explored in German-Polish tandems. This provided an opportunity for students to reflect on the story together and build a deeper connection with one another.
Sport and music were also a must. There were football games, band rehearsals and numerous family outings that brought the exchange to life. Another important aspect was the opportunity for the Polish guests to gain insights into the German school system by observing lessons and to prepare joint presentations for German lessons in Poland.
Cozy get-together
On the evening before departure, a German-Polish buffet took place, which featured specialties from both countries and offered the opportunity to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. The anticipation for the next exchange is already palpable, as the return visit to Rabka-Zdrój is planned for April 16th. With such an active and warm design, the Markgräfler High School shows once again how important intercultural exchange is and that education connects people across borders.
