There has been a decline in break-ins into mobile homes in recent years - but protection against theft remains essential. Wild campers in particular are often affected by petty crime, which is an additional argument for many people to invest in security.

Technical solutions

Comprehensive insurance covers several aspects. It is therefore advisable to install an alarm system. One example is the Bosch spexor mobile alarm system, which detects movements, pressure and noises and can be easily controlled via an app. This cost 249.95 euros, including 12 months of mobile communications, after which the annual fee is 11.99 euros. Another useful gadget is a GPS tracker, which is available for 135.50 euros and remains active for up to 30 days. It sends notifications if the motorhome starts moving without permission.

To minimize the risk of break-in, mechanical security is also advisable. Installing a tailgate lock or securing doors with chains and latches is a simple but effective measure. The use of steering wheel or parking claws can also deter potential thieves.

The development of theft numbers

In recent years, RV theft statistics have caused a stir, especially in certain federal states. Although the number of stolen mobile homes has fallen in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, the situation in Baden-Württemberg is different. Current statistics show a worrying increase of 60% compared to the previous year. This puts Baden-Württemberg in third place in the statistics, along with Bavaria, which saw an increase of a shocking 275%.

Geography could have an impact on these numbers, as many stolen RVs are often transported abroad. Against this background, the need for effective safety measures is even more urgent and should be taken seriously by every mobile home owner. Because protecting your beloved motorhome should be the top priority, especially during the holiday season.
