Böblingen: Spring championship of working dogs creates excitement!

The summer heat did not stop the participants in the SV OG Böblingen spring test on June 14, 2025 from showing top sporting performances. The starting signal for the exams was given at 7 a.m., in the cool morning air, and was led by judge Rolf Harald Fauser and head of the exam Ulf Rathke. The event was completely booked and the enthusiasm of the participants was clearly noticeable. As the Stuttgart News report, the focus was on the International Working Dog Test (IGP), one of the most prestigious sports in working dog sport.

The IGP, which has its roots in the service dog sector and is also known as Schutzhund or eventing sport, requires the utmost precision and teamwork from dogs and dog handlers. Working dog sport is not only an exciting sport, but is also burdened by some prejudices. The special thing is that it comes closest to the dogs' natural drives and dispositions. The exams are divided into several disciplines, each allowing a maximum score of 100 points, making the competition extremely demanding. This also explains why hundreds of interested people flocked to the event to support their teams.

Spring exam results

The results of the tracking work were impressive. Ann-Kathrin Flegel with Hanka from Maurener Tal and Bettina Hitzler with Bruno from Maurener Tal each achieved 100 points, followed by Gerhard Klenk with Etzel (99 points) and Roland Benz with Lene (96 points). In the suborder, Flegel was again ahead with 98 points, while Hitzler and Bruno scored 96 points. The protection service saw Hanka, the youngest starter of the day, on the highest podium with 100 points, while Etzel scored 99 points. Bruno, on the other hand, was disqualified due to a failure in obedience.

The companion dog test and other successes

The companion dog test was also passed with flying colors. Successful participants included Helga Gayde with Quento from Gugelturm and Petra Jähnert with Ennox from Maurener Tal, both of whom encouraged other dog athletes to make their dreams come true. These tests are important because they serve as a basic requirement for entry into working dog sports.

In the internationally recognized companion dog test (IBGH) Dirk Opitz shone with Arani and scored 90 points. Kerstin Scharfenberg with Milky from the Schwarzwaldbahn achieved 80 points. Don Rocco from Villa Riva even impressed with 91 points in the IBGH 2, while Yvonne Schulte had no luck with Wilma and was unsuccessful in the test.

The outstanding winner of the day was Ann-Kathrin Flegel with Hanka, who won the title “Spring Champion 2025” with a total of 298 points. The proud breeders, like Gerhard Klenk, who was able to show several successful dogs from his breeding facility, are an important part of this competitive sport that is finding more and more fans.
