Ettlingen: New electricity and gas prices from 2026 – who saves, who pays more?
Hardly any other topic concerns people here in Ettlingen and the surrounding communities as much as the development of energy prices. The Ettlingen public utility company has now published the new prices for electricity, gas and heat from January 2026, and that brings with it some changes for many households. Around 27,700 customers in Ettlingen, Malsch and Durmersheim are affected by the new tariffs.
There is at least one ray of hope for electricity customers: electricity prices are falling by two percent. A sample customer with a consumption of 3,500 kWh per year can look forward to a monthly saving of around six euros. This is made possible primarily by a subsidy package from Berlin that reduces network charges for electricity. On average, savings of around 2.22 cents per kWh can be expected, which adds up to around seven percent cheaper electricity prices. Consumers who consume 3,000 kWh can save around 67 euros annually if their providers pass on the reductions, as Finanztip reports.
Price increases for gas and heat
But not all the news is good. Gas prices rise by five percent. With a consumption of 20,000 kWh per year, the additional burden is around eleven euros per month. In addition, heat prices increase by four percent, which means an additional monthly cost of eight euros for a consumption of 12,500 kWh. The background to these price increases is the increased procurement costs for gas, which are not part of the subsidy package. The increased CO2 tax and rising network fees also contribute to the price increase.
Interestingly, only a small group, around 6,200 households, receive both electricity, gas or heat from the Ettlingen public utility company. The Ettlingen heating network is relatively small with around 100 affected households and mainly consists of apartment buildings and public facilities.
Competitiveness of the Ettlingen municipal utility company
Despite the increases, Stadtwerke Ettlingen remains extremely attractive compared to other providers. However, comparing prices is currently difficult because many companies have not yet published their new tariffs for 2026. Consumers should therefore have a good hand and take a close look at the offers in order to secure the best conditions.
The long-term perspective shows that gas is likely to become more expensive. Many municipal utilities are planning to shut down gas networks, and CO2 prices are on the rise. Therefore, households should consider how long they want to heat with gas and consider alternative heating methods. This is particularly useful given the fact that the gas storage levy will no longer apply from 2026, which means a saving of around 52 euros per year with a consumption of 15,000 kWh.
