Lörrach: Suspected exhibitionist on the run on the train!

On Sunday evening, June 1st, there was an incident on the S 5 from Schopfheim to Lörrach that caused a stir. The federal police have initiated an investigation into exhibitionist acts and are now looking for a woman who was allegedly harmed. The suspicion is directed against a 52-year-old German who was traveling on the train wearing an orange T-shirt and a hat. The managers report that the man exposed himself not only to a 14-year-old German citizen, but also to an unknown woman. She finally left the train at the Lörrach-Schwarzwaldstrasse stop. The authorities expect the unknown woman, who was wearing a red, off-the-shoulder top, black pants and black and white sneakers, to contact the federal police on 07628/80590 to provide further information.

What exactly can be understood by exhibitionism? According to anwalt.de it is a sexual preference in which people expose themselves or perform sexual acts. It is important to note that this is considered a sexual offense without the consent of the audience. The legal framework for exhibitionism is anchored in Section 183 of the Criminal Code (StGB) and makes it clear that such acts can only be committed by men. Women who exhibit similar behavior, on the other hand, are committing “provoking public nuisance.”

Intervention and legal consequences

In response to the investigation, the Federal Police pointed out that exhibitionism is usually only prosecuted as an offense. This means that prosecution will only occur if the victim files a complaint - unless there is a public interest in prosecution, as in this case. The offense is committed if the genitals are made visible and the action is perceived as sexualized. Negative feelings such as fear or disgust must be present, which can make it difficult to respond appropriately to such behavior.

Penalties for exhibitionist acts range from fines to imprisonment of up to one year. It should also be noted that the act requires an interaction between at least two people, as stern-strafrecht.de explains. So simply being naked or urinating are not included.

Clarifying the incident could help prevent similar acts in the future. The police hope that the woman they are looking for will come forward quickly to provide further information. Anyone who observes or is affected by these types of incidents should not hesitate to report it.
