Volunteer picnic in Heidelberg: A feast of community and networking!

Bergheim, Heidelberg, Deutschland - On July 5, 2025, a very special voluntary picnic took place in Heidelberg. Around 50 committed citizens: inside gathered in the Bergheim district to spend a relaxing afternoon in wonderful weather on the large meadow between the city library and the playground. With delicious snacks and freshly brewed coffee from the mobile coffee stand, the goal was clear: exchange and networking among like -minded people who contribute to a wide variety of areas of society.

The event was organized by the city of Heidelberg and the Heidelberg volunteer agency and was very well received. The participants: inside came from all age groups and were active in various commitment areas, including neighborhood aid, environmental projects, cultural work and integration initiatives. Beate Ebeling from the volunteer agency said that the picnic should create an open space for exchange. "The committed people can get to know each other here and share their experiences," said Ebeling.

appreciation and thank you for committed

During the picnic, the sounds of South American guitar music from Origen e. V., which contributed to the relaxed atmosphere. Hanni Derr from the Citizens' Engagement coordination office emphasized the importance of such events: "The picnic is not only a platform for exchange, but also a thank you to everyone who voluntarily committed themselves." With such actions, the city and the volunteer agency want to further promote appreciation for volunteering.

Last year, around 39.7 percent of the population voluntarily got involved in Germany. This corresponds to around 28.8 million people who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. This diversity reflects the entire society and is an essential feature of a lively town community. This knowledge is underpinned by the volunteer survey, which documents the importance of the commitment to politics and society. The need is also emphasized to improve the opportunities for everyone and to promote a solidarity society in which everyone has its place.

an outlook in the colder season

For the colder months, the Heidelberg volunteer agency is planning a similar format under the name "Volunteer Café". This should also offer people a way in winter to meet, exchange ideas and make new contacts. The principle remains maintained: the focus is on open exchange and the promotion of voluntary engagement.

The response to the volunteer picnic was consistently positive. The organizers agree that such events are a long -term building block for active and strong volunteering in Heidelberg. Anyone who wants to become part of this committed community is encouraged to actively contribute and help shape the city society.
