New playground in Esslingen-Mettingen: A paradise for children is being created!
In Esslingen-Mettingen it will soon be lively again in the playground on Cannstatter Straße. Construction work is currently underway there to renew the popular playing area. Under the motto “The little big adventurers” there will not only be a new course for older children, but also a versatile area for the little ones, which will be equipped with swings and an extra sand area. As the Stuttgart News report, the measures are comprehensive and many suggestions from the resident survey were incorporated into the planning.
The playground is currently not usable as construction work is expected to take another two months. During this time, the requirements for younger children and their safety are particularly important. The danger posed by children kicking on the meadows will be defused by building new swings and a balancing course on the meadows. In addition, the number of benches should be increased in order to offer more space for the numerous adults who often occupy the few seats.
A place for all generations
The Mettingen district currently only has a few play and leisure areas, which makes the construction of a new activity and exercise space all the more important. The city of Esslingen is investing around half a million euros in this. The Esslinger newspaper describes the newly designed space in the Mettinger Wiesen, which covers an area of around 7,500 square meters and goes far beyond the offering of a classic playground. Children, young people and adults alike get their money's worth here - to play, run around and relax.
The planning process for this natural space was lengthy. The committed citizens, supported by the neighborhood management and the city's parks department, worked on the concept for three years. The facility was completed on time, but the inauguration was delayed due to Corona restrictions. Mayor Jürgen Zieger was also convinced of the successful implementation on site.
Quality and sustainability in focus
The planned measures for the playground arise not only from the needs of the residents, but also from modern quality criteria for playgrounds that go beyond traditional equipment such as swings and sandpits. Loud City marketing Natural design, age-appropriateness and accessibility play a crucial role. Safety and regular maintenance are also very important in order to guarantee a high level of safety for children when playing.
In addition to installing new play equipment and creating more seats, the footpath between Stuttgarter Strasse and Ruländerstrasse will also be partially renovated to reduce the formation of puddles after rain. Newly planted trees and bushes will not only enhance the play environment, but also provide additional shade. In the coming winter season, more trees will finally be planted in order to beautify the area in the long term.
With a total investment volume of around 170,000 euros, the city is ensuring that this square becomes a real little paradise for all generations and makes a valuable contribution to the quality of life in the Mettingen district.
