Something special is planned today: The Kirchheim unter Teck literary advisory board invites you to an exciting excursion that brings cultural history to life. On Saturday, July 5, 2025, we will go to the Peter and Paul Festival in Bretten, one of the oldest local festivals in Europe. Under the motto “A city lives its history,” participants can look forward to an impressive spectacle that is known far beyond the city’s borders.
Cultural journey of discovery
The Peter and Paul Festival is characterized by over 3,000 participants in historical costumes and impressive scenography. One of the main attractions will be the re-enacted historical depiction of the siege of Bretten in 1504 during the War of the Landshut Succession. The failed attempt by Duke Ulrich of Württemberg to take the city is legendary. Anyone interested in living history will get their money's worth here.
The festival weekend includes not only camp life and parades, but also rousing music and scenic displays. A special highlight is the “Battle of Brettheim”, which takes place in the evening around 7:00 p.m. However, entry to this spectacle costs an additional 3.00 euros. Kraichgau.news points out that the festival was included in UNESCO's nationwide “Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage” in 2014, which underlines the importance and importance of this tradition.

The excursion starts at 10:00 a.m. at Kirchheimer Ziegelwasen. The return journey is planned around 9:00 p.m., so the return to Kirchheim will take place around 10:30 p.m. The total cost of participation is 47.00 euros per person, whereby this price includes return travel, entry to the Peter and Paul Festival and a visit to the Melanchthon House.
