Youth Parliament mobilizes: elections before the summer holidays!
The political participation of young people is very important in the region. The Youth Parliament (Jupa) in Grenzach-Wyhlen is currently in the process of advertising for the upcoming supplementary elections, which will take place two weeks before the upcoming summer holidays. The committed young people primarily use social media such as Instagram to spread their messages and goals. How publishing house Jaumann reports, Jupa is again taking part in the simulation game about the fictional city of “Stuttingen”, which serves as a platform for its election advertising.
Participating in the simulation game is not only fun, but also has a serious background. The “Stuttingen” project, which was launched in the 2010/11 school year, aims to familiarize students from the eighth grade on with local politics. The participants were able to slip into the roles of mayors, local councilors and press representatives. In recent years, students have discussed current issues affecting their city and explored real-world politics. lpb-bw adds that even meetings in the Stuttgart town hall were included in the program, which gave the young participants a special look behind the scenes.
Support and volunteering
The response to the Jupa initiative has been consistently positive. Florian Schneider from the community's youth department emphasized the valuable role of the simulation game and expressed optimism about future participation. The CDU local councilor Renate Sammet-Grether has also called on young people to actively apply for the coming legislative period. Together with Aaron Gössler from the community, they both praised Jupa's commitment and recognized the importance of this platform for political education in the region.
In addition to political participation, the simulation game is an ideal opportunity for students to actively participate in political discourse and to articulate their opinions. This commitment is considered valuable by the State Center for Civic Education and other institutions. Workshops like those from planning policy are offered, promote critical thinking and democratic skills with the large participation of young people. In recent years, over 20,000 participants have been able to benefit from this offer.
The combined use of simulation games and social media ensures that young people's voices are not only heard, but also amplified. The upcoming elections could not only influence the political climate in Grenzach-Wyhlen, but also enrich the participants themselves in their personal and political development.
