KTM on course for the title: Aki Ajo on progress and challenges!
The current MotoGP season is as exciting as ever, and the Austrian team KTM is right in the middle of it. The team has recently made noticeable progress on their overseas tour. Team manager Aki Ajo emphasizes that stabilizing the team and finding more consistency are the key factors for success. In an interview with Speedweek Ajo talks about the challenges and successes of his pilots, who are benefiting from an upward trend.
KTM is currently in a tight race for runner-up title among manufacturers. With only 30 points behind Aprilia, they are determined to conquer this place. The team has improved from 4th place in 2022 to 2nd place. This is also reflected in the fact that KTM was the second strongest force in the MotoGP paddock after 20 events last year. According to Ajo, this consistency became more evident from the middle of the year as the KTM riders found their form better.
Key moments and progress
There were several turning points in the season that contributed to the positive development. There was a bright spot for Pedro in Assen in particular, and from Brno onwards the results improved steadily. Ajo makes it clear that communication and accountability within the team are crucial. Tests in Jerez and Aragon also created new confidence and motivation. At first, Ajo was skeptical that the team could consistently compete for podiums, but his view has changed. The team boss takes an approach based on small but realistic improvements.
“The competition in MotoGP is incredibly close,” emphasizes Ajo. It is complicated to stay consistently between 2nd and 5th place because the drivers' performance is assessed more strictly today. A weak weekend can quickly affect the rankings, and the competition never sleeps. The KTM riders therefore have a long way to go to realize their ambitions and take the team even further forward.
KTM and the VIN decoding
Another interesting point is that until 1992, KTM used its own frame numbering system, different from the global VIN. This information is not only important for buyers, but also helps clarify the identity and history of a motorcycle. In addition, KTM now has production facilities in different countries, which brings additional facets to VIN decoding.
