Police operation in Nersingen: Man threatens with a gun – residents in excitement!

In Nersingen-Straß, a tranquil town near Neu-Ulm, there was a police operation that caused a stir at the weekend. A dispute between two men, a 40-year-old and a 49-year-old, brought the authorities onto the scene. During the argument, the older man threatened to use an air gun, which escalated the situation and alerted the police. The 40-year-old, believed to be the current partner of a woman who was also linked to the 49-year-old in the past, called the police and distanced himself from the situation, reports SWR.

The police responded in a big way. Nine patrol cars were deployed and cordoned off several streets in the area surrounding the incident. For safety reasons, an ambulance service and an emergency doctor were also available nearby, but were not needed. The drama attracted many local residents who followed the events with curiosity. The operation ultimately lasted an hour and a half and fortunately went without any injuries.

Cooperation of those involved

The police insisted on contacting the 49-year-old, who was cooperative. After a phone call, he allowed himself to be taken without resistance. He is now being investigated for threats. The strangest detail: From a legal point of view, an air rifle is not a sharp weapon, so it does not require a permit, but it can certainly cause a stir. This is reminiscent of a similar incident in Halle, where a 51-year-old threatened students with a weapon-like object. No shots were fired there either and the situation was brought under control quite quickly MDR reported.

Crime is changing

The incident in Nersingen-Straß is not without significance on a larger scale. According to the 2024 police crime statistics, crime in Germany fell for the first time last year by 1.7 percent to 5,837,445 registered crimes. A main reason for this decline was the partial legalization of cannabis, which led to a decrease in drug-related crime. Still, violent crime rose 1.5 percent to 217,277 cases, the highest level since 2007. What is particularly striking is the increase in the number of suspected children and young people as well as in sexual offenses, according to surveys by the BKA.

The incident in Nersingen-Straß is helping to revitalize the discussion about gun laws, particularly with regard to air guns. While such weapons are legally unproblematic, social perception is becoming increasingly skeptical. The events in the city and the current crime statistics make it clear that security and awareness should be the top priority in our society today.
