history and meaning of the CSD
In the shade of such celebrations, it is important to remember the roots of Christopher Street Day. The CSD has its origins in the 1969 Stonewallcand in New York City when the LGBTQ+community forced the police force and discrimination. The first CSD parade in Germany took place in Berlin in 1979 and attracted 450 participants. Today CSD removals from many cities have become indispensable, they attract hundreds of thousands and have become symbols of the struggle for LGBTQ+rights. Critics indicate the commercialization that will receive the original spirit of movements in the future, but the commitment to equality and tolerance remains central.
