Tempo 30 for Schwäbisch Gmünd? Citizen will rejected, noise remains!

Schwäbisch Gmünd, Deutschland - in Schwäbisch Gmünd, traffic noise in heavily frequented roads ensures plenty of discussion material among the citizens. At the last council meeting on July 6th, the noise action plan was now decided. However, the proposal of the Söl faction for the introduction of km/h on the passage streets met with significant rejection.

The municipal council mostly followed the proposal of the city administration, Tempo 40 for Eutighofer Straße, Goethestrasse and Königsturmstraße. The first mayor Christian Baron also mentioned possible speed 40 zones in the southern part of the city, for example in Weißensteiner Straße and Rechbergstrasse. The noise level in Schwäbisch Gmünd is alarming: According to the noise values of the State Institute for the Environment, several streets exceed 70 dB (a), which is heavily stressed by the citizens, as Professor Dr. Andreas Benk from the Söl faction urgently emphasized.

the citizens and their voices

An expression of the will of the community came in the form of around 100 signatures from Herlikofen, which pleaded for 30 Tempo. However, Baron replied that this number of 3,300 inhabitants in the local council was considered not significant. The mayor Thomas Maihöfer reported that 85 percent of the cars were already around 40 km/h. Fabian Wolf from the CDU clinked and identified noisy molitors, especially trucks and trailers, as the main cause.

In exchange, the financial challenges were also discussed. The renovation of the streets for better noise protection is perceived by the city; The costs often go beyond the six -digit limit. Ordinary asphalt only brings a noise reduction of 2 dB (a), while highly noise -reducing asphalt brings 5 dB (A) less noise into the environment. In addition, noise protection walls could minimize traffic noise by up to 20 dB (A).

The noise action plan and its implementation

The noise situation leads the city administration and the political factions to recognize the need for action to improve noise protection. The green faction emphasized that the noise action plan must be exploited more consistently. The proposals include reducing traffic, the installation of soundproofing windows and the use of whisper asphalt in order to significantly reduce the noise pollution. In addition, the reduction in driving speed was thrown into the room as an effective measure, in particular the introduction of km / h in heavily loaded areas, which is the most cost -effective and fastest solution.

However, the implementation of the noise action plan is sometimes perceived as too slow. So far, there has been no final noise action plan based on the new noise maps that were created in 2022 in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The print on the part of the Greens, but also other factions, remains high to ensure more effective protection of residents.

The noise action plan was ultimately decided with a large majority, but it remains to be seen whether and how quickly measures are taken. A good knack for implementation should be necessary to help residents in the heavily stressed areas.
