Remembrance for humanity: Vigil for Elser Memorial Day in Aalen
On November 8, 2025, a moving vigil and demonstration in memory of Georg Elser took place in the Ostalbkreis. Organized by the Network for Democracy, numerous citizens gathered at Brüder-Scholl-Platz under the motto “See people fully – Janusz Korczak and his pedagogy of humanity”. The day was dedicated to the fight for the rights and dignity of children, inspired by the life's work of Janusz Korczak, a Polish-Jewish doctor and educator.
The memory of Janusz Korczak was kept alive by walking together past the stumbling blocks to the VHS Aalen. This courageous man fought tirelessly for the rights of children and is an outstanding example of humanity. His commitment served as a powerful encouragement to take on responsibility in society. The participants from numerous groups, including the Ostalbkreis District Office, the Evangelical Church Community of Aalen and Omas gegen Rechts, underlined the importance of commemoration.

The event also brought many creative elements. Students from the Kocherburg School actively participated in the preparations, and the saxophone duo Renner & Huber provided the musical accompaniment. The Theater der Stadt Aalen presented a performance that reinforced the central message of the event: humanity and the need to stand up for the rights of the most vulnerable in our society.
An invitation went out to everyone present to bring lanterns with them in order to collectively set a sign of hope and remembrance. This simple gesture should not only keep the memory of Georg Elser alive, but also the teachings of Korczak: Every person has the right to be seen and heard.
