On Tuesday morning there was a serious traffic accident on the A6 near Dielheim in the Rhein-Neckar district that involved several vehicles. A 40-year-old man was traveling in his minibus towards Mannheim when he wanted to overtake a tractor-trailer between the Sinsheim and Wiesloch/Rauenberg junctions. However, when changing to the left lane, the minibus driver collided with a Porsche that was also driving there. The collision caused the minibus to move back into the middle lane and hit a tractor-trailer.
This impact had dramatic consequences: a tire on the tractor-trailer burst and the rear bumper tore off. This bumper damaged the diesel tank of another tractor-trailer, causing diesel fuel to leak onto the road. Fortunately, the driver of the minibus only suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. A rescue helicopter was also used, but was able to take off again without any patients.
Closure and backlog for hours
The accident recording and the subsequent clean-up and cleaning work caused significant traffic disruptions. In the direction of Mannheim, the motorway was completely closed for several hours, resulting in a backlog of up to ten kilometers. The two damaged semi-trailers and the minibus had to be towed away while the Porsche driver was able to continue his journey. The total property damage is estimated at around 80,000 euros.
