Shock on the B38: Head-on collision with two injured in Mannheim!

On Friday evening, June 13, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on the B38 federal highway on the ABB bridge in Mannheim. At around 10:15 p.m. there was a head-on collision between a BMW and a car driven by a 21-year-old driver. The young woman was on Rollbühlstrasse and, for reasons that are still unclear, crossed into oncoming traffic, which ultimately led to a collision with the BMW of a 52-year-old driver who was traveling towards Käfertal.

The driver of the BMW made a desperate attempt to avoid the collision by swerving to the left. But his plan failed because he encountered a concrete sliding wall. Both vehicles collided head-on at an estimated speed of 30 to 40 km/h, causing significant damage to the front area. The result: Both vehicles were no longer drivable and had to be towed away. The material damage caused is estimated at around 30,000 euros.

Injured drivers and traffic delays

Accidents are increasing in Germany; according to Statista, there were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in 2023. Here in Mannheim, too, both drivers did not remain unscathed: both the 21-year-old and the 52-year-old suffered minor injuries and were taken to surrounding hospitals for medical evaluation. Friedrich-Ebert-Straße was closed in both directions while the accident was being recorded and the subsequent towing measures were carried out. However, the road was reopened to traffic at 11:40 p.m.

Unfortunately, such an incident is not an isolated case. In general, the number of accidents resulting in personal injuries remains at a constant level. The most common causes of traffic accidents are insufficient distance, improper speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. In Germany, around 15,700 alcohol-related accidents with personal injuries were recorded in 2023, in which 193 people lost their lives and 18,686 were injured, the statistics show.

Considering all these aspects, it is important to take road safety seriously and be vigilant. Ultimately, the EU is pursuing the goal of “Vision Zero”: there should be no more traffic deaths by 2050. It remains to be hoped that accidents like the ones that happened in Mannheim on Friday evening can be avoided in the future.
