Mannheim shows solidarity: 901 kg shoes collected for good purposes!

Mannheim, Deutschland - In Mannheim, the Kolping family Mannheim-Central with its shoe collection “My shoe does well” will provide enthusiasm. Over 901 kilograms of shoes were collected from November 2024 to February 2025, which is the highest result ever for this initiative. The collected shoes benefit the International Adolph-Kolping-Foundation that is committed to promoting vocational training centers, youth exchange, social projects and religious education.

The commitment of the Kolping Family extends throughout Germany, where a total of 244,613 shoes were collected in 8,464 packages during this period. In Mannheim, the collection points in the Kolpinghaus R7, 9-11, are open all year round, and actions are also carried out regularly, such as the Kolping Memorial Day. At this event, the collection containers were overflowed - a clear sign of the high willingness to help in the community.

"The cohesion in the Mannheim communities is impressive," says Sebastian Fuhrmann, co-chair of the Kolping Family. "We had the hope of achieving a good result, and we succeeded very much." Compared to the previous year, the amount of shoes collected has more than tripled; In 2023 it was only 355 kilograms. Fuhrmann is optimistic about the next round of collecting, which will take place in the last quarter of 2025.

The collected shoes, including hiking shoes, rubber boots, sandals and even sales shoes, are carefully sorted and marketed in the sorting works of Kolping Recycling GmbH. The entire proceeds from this campaign flows directly to the Kolping International Foundation. Only portable shoes that are suitable for running are accepted- leisure or work shoes are welcome, while special shoe types such as riding boots or ice skates are left out.

future prospects and commitment

"The Kolping family Mannheim-Central is part of around 2,200 Kolping families in Germany. We count a total of around 205,000 members, around 40 of them here in Mannheim," explains Fuhrmann. The activities of the Kolping family are diverse and not only include the shoe collection, but also community festivals, educational evenings and youth work.
