Firewood in Waiblingen: Prices are stagnating despite falling demand!
In Waiblingen, the demand for firewood has fallen this year. In previous years it was a fight for the coveted resource, but now things look completely different. Kilian Knötzele, the head of the Waiblingen forestry depot, reports a noticeable decrease in demand. This is due, among other things, to the alleged price reductions for oil and gas, the prices of which skyrocketed after the Russian attack on Ukraine. These circumstances led to a real rush for firewood at the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023, which could not always be served, but this year the situation is more nuanced.
The prices for the solid meter of firewood are impressive. While demand is reduced, supply remains relatively stable. In Waiblingen, the prices for firewood are also stable due to the growing wood stocks in Germany of around 3.64 billion cubic meters. These reserves make Germany one of the leading wood producers in Europe. Anyone who has a good knack for wood will definitely find something to their liking here.
A look at the timber market
Wood production has the potential to replace fossil raw materials and thus minimize significant environmental impacts. What is particularly interesting is that around 100 million cubic meters of wood grows back across Germany every year. In addition to the stable prices for firewood, this results in a positive forecast for the future wood supply.
Currents in the timber market
