Schorndorf invites you to a summer reception: solidarity after the flood!

On Friday evening, numerous citizens gathered in the picturesque Ziegeleiseebad in Schorndorf. This summer reception, which took place in a festive setting, brought together not only local actors but also high-ranking guests, emphasizing the atmosphere of togetherness and solidarity. Mayor Bernd Hornikel welcomed those present and spoke about the challenges that Schorndorf currently has to overcome. The focus was particularly on the need for cohesion within the community, especially in view of the devastating effects of the flood disaster.

“It is important that we are there for each other in these difficult times,” said Hornikel, focusing on the current political developments that influence thinking and action at the local level. The event was accompanied musically by the music club “Frisch-Auf” Haubersbronn, which contributed to the cheerful atmosphere with lively sounds.

Flooding: A call for support

How much Schorndorf is suffering from the consequences of the last floods was also shown in the mayor's words. Hornikel turned to Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann and Chancellor Olaf Scholz to demand financial support for the damaged infrastructure and the Wieslauftalbahn. The estimated damage amounts to a shocking 30 to 35 million euros for the city, while an additional 20 million euros are necessary for the Wieslauftalbahn, with Schorndorf as a co-owner having to bear around 5 million euros. SWR reports about how District Administrator Richard Sigel also warned of the urgent need for financial help for the Wieslauftalbahn and damaged roads in the Rems-Murr district.

“The short-term provision of at least 15 million euros for the Wieslauftalbahn is essential,” said Sigel, who presented a list of demands to Transport Minister Winfried Hermann. A further 20 million euros are also being demanded for repairs to the devastated roads in the district. The shortness of the visit makes it clear that the situation is explosive and rapid action is required to enable citizens to live after the flood events.

In these times, the call for solidarity is not only a sign of cohesion, but also a call for politicians to act quickly and decisively. This is the only way to restore the local infrastructure and ensure the quality of life of the people in Schorndorf.
