Fellbach in change: City museum invites you to discover new habitats!

In Fellbach, exciting things are happening: On July 16, 2025 at 7 p.m., a lecture by Madlen Wendt, the project manager of the International Building Exhibition 2027 (IBA’27), will take place in the city museum. Under the title "Forgotten City City. Old Area Redesign", Wendt will explain how the living, working and living conditions in the Stuttgart region can be improved sustainably. The city museum at Hinteren Straße 26 not only has the lecture on this day, but also the special exhibition "Urban Sketching. Stroking for a strain through Fellbach and the world", which accompanies the 16th Triennale small plastic Fellbach.

Fellbach is part of an innovative project that was launched as part of the IBA’27. The project entitled "Agriculture meets Manufacturing" deals with the future-oriented development of commercial areas, especially at the city trimming of Fellbach and Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. This area is described as a "potential space", which is to be prepared for denser and more efficient land use. In this context, special attention is paid to the synergies between agriculture and business, especially with regard to material cycles and energy distribution.

sustainability in focus

The topic of sustainability plays a central role in urban development. According to the findings of the Federal Center for Political Education, sustainable urban development can only succeed if both economic and social and ecological aspects are brought into harmony. In an environment in which over 75% of the population lives in urban areas, it is urgently needed to create urban rooms worth living. The IBA’27 takes this challenge seriously and would like to offer concrete solutions through various projects, such as "Agriculture meets Manufacturing".

What is the procedure on this exciting project? A planning, scientific and dialog -based examination of the 110 hectare investigation area, which is to be carried out in cooperation with local actors, are planned. Intensive agriculture takes place on one side of the area, while the other side includes the oldest industrial area in the city. An exchange between these two worlds is to be promoted to create an exemplary model for urban production that can also be transferred to other cities.

opening times and admission

The exhibition on the subject of "Agriculture meets Manufacturing" can be viewed in the city museum by November 2, 2025. The opening times are from Tuesday to Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entry is free, which makes the visit to all interested citizens: made particularly attractive inside.

In summary, it can be said that a strong sign of sustainable urban development is set in Fellbach. The upcoming events and projects show how diverse and innovative the approaches are to make our cities sustainable. It is to be hoped that such initiatives will also school in other cities and municipalities and drive a positive development.
