Clinic sale in Vaihingen: Missed opportunity causes disappointment!
Things are brewing in Vaihingen/Enz: The local council has again discussed the purchase of the clinic site, but the decision is still pending. The scheduled decision was postponed, which caused disappointment among citizens and local doctors. As the Stuttgart News report, Mayor Uwe Skrzypek saw this as an important step in regaining the trust of doctors at the Vaisana Medical Center. But imprecise wording in the proposed resolution put a stop to the plans.
There are great concerns about medical care. The level of care in Vaihingen is the worst in all of Baden-Württemberg, and the doctors' rental contracts in the medical center expire in 2027. An application offer to extend the contracts has been pending for over a year. Skrzypek himself plans to purchase the site to prevent doctors from leaving. At the meeting, a proposal was made to call another meeting with the RKH Clinics, as the local council basically agreed that purchasing the site made sense. However, a motion to send the resolution back to the committee was narrowly passed and caused dissatisfaction.
Future of Vaisana and the clinic
In the run-up to the meeting, the discussion about the future of the Vaisana and the former hospital attracted lively participation. The regional Kliniken Holding (RKH) is planning to sell the area and has already submitted a formal purchase request to the city to clarify interest in it. In a special meeting that took place on November 13th, initial ideas for the development of a new urban district were discussed. This concept includes, among other things, the continuation of the medical center and various medical and nursing services. According to information from, senior-friendly living will also become part of the new planning complex that is dedicated to the economy for the common good Vaihingen district messenger.
At the public meeting, a representative of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians reported on the precarious medical care situation. Given these uncertainties, it is essential that the city maintains negotiations with the RKH. Citizens have been vocal about their concerns and over 4,000 votes have been collected on a petition to preserve Vaisana. The pressure to find a solution here is high.
Make a mark
Mayor Skrzypek sees the local council's decision as a missed opportunity and expressed concerns about possible lobbying in the city. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and whether the city will be able to prevent the committed doctors from leaving. A short-term rental agreement for the doctors at Vaisana should at least provide a certain level of planning security until the sale process.
The discussion about basic medical care and the future of the area is currently continuing. The next meeting will show whether the city can set the right course to secure the valuable medical infrastructure in Vaihingen.
