Bietigheim Bridge: Renovation up to the horse market ensured!

A major issue in traffic planning in Baden-Württemberg is the renovation of the Auwiesen Bridge. This will be addressed in the second half of 2026, as the construction mayor of Bietigheim-Bissingen, Andreas Klein, announced. The area around the bridge is considered critical, and Klein emphasizes that completing it to the horse market is a high priority. He rejects a one-year break in the construction marathon and emphasizes the urgency of this work.
The federal government has recognized that the bridge infrastructure in Germany needs to be expanded and will focus on bridge renovations in the future. The reason for this is the need to increase the load-bearing capacity and traffic safety of the approximately 40,300 bridges in the federal highway network, which were often built between 1960 and 1985. The increase in heavy traffic makes comprehensive maintenance and modernization measures essential to ensure road safety. Statistics show that there are around 52,600 substructures that will soon need to undergo thorough inspection and repair in order to optimize the infrastructure.

The modernization of the transport infrastructure

As part of a new bridge modernization program, a core network of routes that meets modern requirements will be created within a decade. To date, the bridge modernization network already covers around 7,000 kilometers and around 10,700 bridge substructures. These measures are not only important, they are also financed according to needs. The German Bundestag receives continuous reports on investments and progress so that everyone is always informed.
There are also other exciting construction projects in the region. The construction of a 186 meter long prefabricated block gravity wall along the B 27 by the Valeo company is currently causing a stir. The Mauthe-Beton company relies on a quick and simple construction concept that should be implemented within two to three weeks. The wall itself consists of around 1,000 individual stones and has an impressive viewing area of 520 square meters.

Ecological and aesthetic aspect

Building mayor Michael Wolf emphasizes that the wall will have an attractive natural stone look. The high point measures up to four meters, and the stones used, which are made of pure concrete, are designed to work together without gluing or grouting. This not only makes them efficient to process, but also allows the parts to theoretically be dismantled and used elsewhere.
This wall is scheduled to be completed next Friday and is currently being praised as the largest of its kind in Germany. This not only creates a functional but also visually appealing entry into the city.
