Murder on a sex date: Public prosecutor demands life sentence for Göppingen devil!

In a shocking trial being conducted at the Ulm Regional Court against a 26-year-old woman from the Stuttgart area, the charges are murder. The public prosecutor's office is demanding life imprisonment for the defendant, who is accused of killing a 46-year-old man from Göppingen during a sex meeting in October 2024. This arrangement turned out to be disastrous, as the prosecution suspected that the murder was motivated by a deep-rooted hatred of men. As the Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports, the prosecution sees special characteristics such as treachery and base motives, which also speaks for the seriousness of the guilt.

Private arguments were held during the trial. The defendant is said to have been listening to music on headphones during the murder so as not to hear the sounds of the man dying. It is also shocking that she is said to have made a cell phone video during the crime - a sign of deeply disturbed psychology. After the crime, she went to the nearest bus stop and disposed of the victim's cell phone in a bush to cover up her crime. Investigators discovered that there were chats between the two that led to the woman's arrest three days after the incident.

The motive behind the crime

The woman confessed to the crime, but did not provide any further information about the sequence of events in court. During the investigation, she said that she wanted to kill men to take revenge for previous rapes and abuse. In her past, she stated that she was raped by an ex-boyfriend at the age of 17 and was also beaten by her father. A psychological expert reported that the defendant tortured animals in her childhood and had a desire to become famous as a serial killer. There was also evidence that weeks before the murder she was intensively interested in serial murders and watched videos of murder victims.

Psychological problems and social context

However, the social view of violent crime in Germany is complex. According to Statista, violent crimes make up less than 4% of recorded crimes, but they have a much greater impact on people's sense of security than, for example, theft or fraud. Over 217,000 violent crimes were recorded in 2024, the highest number since 2007. After a decline due to the coronavirus pandemic, the numbers have increased again since 2021, possibly reflecting economic uncertainty and social stress. It makes it possible to solve acts of violence in around 75% of cases.

During the current hearing, the circumstances surrounding the defendant's guilt were also brought into play. It remains to be seen whether a verdict will be reached at the end of the trial that adequately reflects the complexity of the case and the tragedy for both the victim and the defendant. Six days of trial are scheduled and a verdict could come as early as mid-July. The discussion about the background and causes of violent crime is once again on the agenda during this time.

It remains to be hoped that such tragic incidents will provide an impetus to reflect on the causes of violence in our society and find solutions. For the families and community affected, the question remains “why” and “how did this happen?” painful and urgent.
