Traditional company Herzog in Kirchheim: overcome bankruptcy!

The news from Kirchheim am Neckar conjures up a smile on the faces of the camping friends: The traditional company Herzog was successfully saved from bankruptcy. The insolvency administrator Holger Blümle von Schultze & Braun announced on July 1, 2025 that the Herzog family took over the business again in cooperation with an investor. After 123 years of company history, the company, which started in 1902 by Friedrich Herzog as a horse blanket manufaktur, can continue to exist and remains an important player in the area of caravan and motorhome fowards as well as outdoor equipment.

Fortunately, all around 60 jobs are retained, which is a real stroke of luck for the region. The company is rescued in the start of the holiday season, and customers have experienced hardly any noticeable restrictions during bankruptcy. The operational business continued, orders via the online shop were processed without interruption. This shows that the company has remained loyal to the company even in difficult times.

causes of bankruptcy

The bankruptcy was not an easy blow for Herzog GmbH & Co. KG. Managing Director Erich Eugen Herzog names excessive Corona measures as one of the main causes of the problems. During the Lockdowns, trips could not be done, which hit the entire camping industry hard. Price increases in raw materials and sales declines due to geopolitical faults in the global economy contributed to the bankruptcy. Despite these adverse circumstances, the company continued the work on over 16,000 square meters of production space and employed its highly qualified employees.

The current situation is part of a major problem: the camping industry in Germany faces enormous challenges. According to an analysis of the Statistics, the bankruptcies have risen drastically during the Corona pandemy. Many other traditional companies have also filed for bankruptcy, which illustrates the precarious situation of family businesses in Germany.

The perspective of the industry

The success of the rescue of Herzog could serve as a ray of hope. However, without fundamental reforms in politics, many other family businesses could stand in front of the final end. Criticism of the state support of large corporations is currently growing, while the small and medium -sized companies often fall behind. It remains to be seen how the industry will develop and whether the politicians will finally take care of the important concerns of the small companies.

Ultimately, the hope that the history of Herzog is a turning point and not only opens up new perspectives for the company itself, but also for the entire industry. Who knows, maybe this crisis will ultimately become a new upswing for the camping industry.
