The city of Kirchheim is calling for a planting campaign for orchards!
Something is happening for nature in Kirchheim unter Teck! On Saturday, December 6, 2025, there will be a public planting campaign to support the orchards. The event is organized by the Kirchheim city administration and the “Naturally Nabern” initiative. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., anyone who is interested can help plant new fruit trees in the Simriswasen above the Devaux barn. For this purpose, a wooden path to the Reuschwald is used as an event location. Not only is the planting planned, but also a free plant pruning course where participants can learn valuable care skills for young trees.
The city of Kirchheim not only covers the costs of planting the trees, but also ensures professional support. What's particularly pleasing is that the Devaux family prepares the planting holes in advance so that all participants can get started straight away. So that everyone can take part, no special prior knowledge is required. However, if you would like to take part, you should register with Rainer Gall in advance by email - this makes planning easier
The importance of orchards
Orchards are true treasure troves of nature and make a valuable contribution to preserving biodiversity. They provide habitat for many animals, such as bees, little owls and small mammals. These diverse biotopes are not only an ecological asset, they also provide tasty fruit that is highly sought after in many households. According to that NABU With good care, tall fruit trees can live up to 100 years and are therefore a long-term project for nature lovers. Volunteers are also welcome to help with harvesting, mowing meadows or even ringing young little owls.
Maintaining these meadows is not easy and requires both time and financial resources. Therefore, committed supporters who would like to take responsibility for a specific tree are always in demand.
Preparation is everything
As part of the planting campaign, the city's parks department and experts from the district will provide technical support. This means that participants not only get actively involved, but can also benefit from the knowledge of experienced gardeners. And who knows, maybe one or the other has a good knack for fruit trees and will develop a new passion as a result!
Use this opportunity to not only do something for nature, but also to experience community and learn for your own gardening knowledge. So, come along and support the initiative that not only stands for a better environment, but also for your region!
