Esslingen receives 1.7 million euros for the new marketplace!

Things are really getting down to business in Esslingen! The market square, a central point of the city, will be completely redesigned by 2027. What is behind this exciting project? As the Esslinger newspaper reports, the state of Baden-Württemberg is generously supporting the redesign of the marketplace with 1.7 million euros. This money comes from the State Municipal Transport Financing Act (LGVFG), an important instrument for promoting municipal transport infrastructure.

The goal is clear: a lively, traffic-calmed and climate-friendly town center should be created here. The wish list includes, among other things, a new paving made of natural stone, subtle lighting columns and a newly created fountain field for refreshing water features in the summer. What better way for visitors to relax than with a cool drink near a bubbling fountain?

Transport transition and more quality of life

Another highlight of the redesign is the conversion of the accessible area into a pedestrian zone. Parking spaces around the market square will be eliminated to create more space for pedestrians and cyclists. The access to the “Kleiner Markt” underground car park will also be redesigned as a shared traffic area in order to promote a quieter atmosphere.

In addition, a guidance system for the blind will be installed as well as barrier-free paving so that people with disabilities can also use the market place without any problems. New seating and bicycle parking spaces will be created. A real plus for the quality of your stay!

A green thumb for Esslingen

Particular attention is also being paid to climate adaptation: the plan is to plant new trees and tree beds. This will not only improve air quality, but also make for a more beautiful cityscape. Preparations for the redesign have already begun, but had to be temporarily suspended due to the Christmas market.

The implementation of the measures costs a total of around 3.3 million euros, which is considerable when you consider the positive effects this will have on the cityscape and the quality of life of its citizens. If everything goes according to plan, the redesigned market square will shine in new splendor for the city's anniversary in 2027.

The project not only promises a visual upgrade of the Esslingen market square, but also a noticeable increase in quality of life for all residents and guests. It will be exciting to see how the marketplace will develop over the next few years. However, one thing is certain: there is something going on in Esslingen!
