in Esslingen the time has come again: The traditional volunteer evening takes place as part of the popular cinema at the castle. The event is organized by the city administration of Esslingen in close cooperation with the Esslingen municipal works and solar. On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the volunteers can expect a very special film screening: "The book walks" begins at 9:45 p.m. and certainly ensures an unforgettable evening.
What makes this evening special? The city of Esslingen provides 3,000 free tickets especially for volunteers. From Wednesday, July 9, 2025, clubs, organizations and facilities can order up to 15 tickets. The greyhound principle applies - that is, the cards are quickly gone, so hurry is displayed! The cards will be sent by post from July 14th. Mayor Matthias Klopfer will also take the opportunity to thank all volunteers for their valuable commitment.
The film and the festivities
"The Book Walker" is based on Carsten Henn's bestseller and tells the touching story of the old bookseller Carl Kollhoff and his companion, the girl Schascha. This film evening is not only an appreciation of voluntary work in the city, but also part of the open-air film festival, which takes place from July 31 to August 9, 2025 at the Esslingen Castle. This year, visitors can not only look forward to live music before each performance, but also to a varied film program.
The entire event comes after a year break in which the volunteer evening was deleted due to budget consolidations - which caused a lot of excitement at the time. However, the city has undertaken to take the volunteer evening into account in the budget plans in order to appreciate the valuable contribution of the volunteers. This shows that they recognize and support the work of the volunteers.
