Reading day in Sindelfingen: Grandmas talk about the future for children!

Things will be colorful and creative at the Sindelfinger Stern Center on November 21, 2025! National Reading Day takes place on this day, and the “Grandmas for Future” movement celebrates with a special reading from the generational book “Grandma, tell me about the future!”. From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., children aged six and over are invited to immerse themselves in exciting stories with their families.

The reading day is being held for the 22nd time, and the Grandmas for Future are taking part in it for the first time with a nationwide participation campaign. In a total of five cities, around 1,300 volunteers from the project will read aloud and take the young listeners on an imaginative journey. The aim is to teach children courage, creativity, love and community as they discover the adventures of Lilly and the rainbow worm Flori, who has lost his colors.

Creative supporting program and supporters

The offer is free of charge and registration is not required. This allows anyone interested to become part of the event. In addition to the readings, there will also be a creative offer for the children as well as an information table that will provide information about the offerings of the Sindelfingen libraries, the community foundation and various environmental organizations. The city of Sindelfingen supports this valuable initiative and the project, which emerged from volunteer work and has now also received the 2025 UNESCO award.

The motto of Reading Day 2025 – “Reading speaks your language” – places particular emphasis on the importance of every voice and language. The initiators, consisting of DIE ZEIT, the Reading Foundation and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation, have focused on using reading aloud as an opportunity for exchange and togetherness, which is of great importance for children of this age. More than 25,000 children in schools, libraries and neighborhood cafés are expected to benefit from this commitment.

A look into the future

The book “Grandma, tell me about the future!” is distributed widely and the printing and shipping costs are financed by donations. The stories that will be available in printed form are not only interesting, but also a call for sustainable education. Bilingual editions in German-Turkish, German-Arabic and German-Ukrainian are also planned. The stories are told not just in one language, but in several languages.

Preparations are in full swing as the readers receive the book with great enthusiasm. In the online reading on November 20th, Jürgen Resch will also make the project accessible to children who cannot be there on that day.

Events like these not only promote reading culture, but also strengthen the community of volunteers who are committed to sustainable and future-oriented education. November 21st will be a very special day for Sindelfingen and its little citizens!
