Pforzheim celebrates the demolition: video installation as an artistic farewell gift!
Pforzheim, Deutschland - In the near future, exciting artistic events are pending in Pforzheim. While the old technical town hall in eastern Karl-Friedrich-Straße is facing the demolition, it becomes the setting for a unique art campaign. On Friday, July 11, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., the premiere of an impressive video installation will take place, which turns the facade of the building into a lively screen. The artist Harald Kröner designed the installation, which deals with the history, architecture and urban memory of the town hall.
The idea for this installation was created as part of an art competition in the city of Pforzheim, and Kröner was selected by a jury of experts. With materials from the Pforzheim City Archives and the Institute for City History Stuttgart as well as current recordings by architectural photographer Bernhard Friese, the 15-minute film gives a look at the past, the present and the future of the building. After the premiere, the film is shown daily until July 20 in continuous loop: on Fridays and Saturdays between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. and from Sunday to Monday from 22 to midnight.
a moving statement for memory
But not only the technical town hall becomes the focus of artistic attention during this time. The artist duo Harald Kröner and Peter Kraus have already caused a stir on the corner of Bleich-/Kanalstraße. Her intervention entitled "Pforzheim is the sea" is reminiscent of the refugees who have lost their lives on the water. This campaign is described as a strong statement and worthy final of a project for urban development, which began in summer and had an original romantic approach: the desire that Pforzheim would be by the sea.
The Förderverein Art in Public Surrivers deals intensively with art in urban environments. It is not just about bringing modern and contemporary art closer to the public, but also about discovering art as an element of urban design. The area of tension between traditional sculpture and contemporary understanding of art is highlighted. These art objects offer space for reflection on complex life experiences as well as socio -political topics and identity, for which the current projects in Pforzheim make a valuable contribution.
The mixture of contemporary art and urban planning issues ensures a lively basis for discussion in the city. While the technical town hall will soon be history, the memory of the refugees and their stories remains alive. Art plays a crucial role here to promote dialogue about the future of Pforzheim and the associated challenges.
The events of the next few weeks not only promise to give interesting insights into the past, but also to show new perspectives for the future. Pforzheim came up with something very special for this.
