New district heating network in Stetten: start of construction and important information for residents!
The first construction phase of a new and future-oriented district heating network, the Stetten-Dorf heating network, is currently being started in Stetten. The construction work, which began in June 2025, will initially focus on connecting the heating plants on Schulstrasse and at the indoor swimming pool. The Lörrach city administration is responsible for the work and aims to complete the construction by Easter 2026. Lörrach.de reports.
Overall, the construction work will be carried out in sections along Schulstrasse, Goethestrasse, Gustav-Hugo-Strasse, Zwischen den Wegen, Scheffelstrasse and Stettengasse. The affected residents will soon notice the changes, but should prepare for temporary restrictions on access and parking options. The construction management will inform all residents about the planned measures before the start of new sections. Anyone who is not on site during this phase should proactively contact the construction management or appoint a representative. Sven Brennecke from the construction management is available to answer any questions (s.brennecke(at)ratioenergie.de).
Heat supply is changing
The importance of district heating has come into greater focus in recent years. According to information from dena, the current status of district heating generation in Germany is heavily dependent on fossil fuels, with a share of only 22 percent renewable energy in 2021. Major efforts are necessary to achieve the climate goals and generate at least 50 percent climate-neutral heat by 2030. The topic is in the context of a broader discussion about the heat transition in urban areas dena.de explains.
In order to implement the transformation goals, a total of 43.5 billion euros must be invested in district heating by 2030. These figures come from a recent study that shows an increase in investment needs of 10.6 billion euros compared to a previous analysis. Around 3.4 billion euros are needed annually to make the necessary progress. [VKU reports].
The next steps
In Stetten, citizens can look forward to a modern heat supply that is continually progressing through the various construction phases. The first section on Schulstrasse is scheduled to be completed before mid-July, followed by further work by April 2026. These steps are not only a response to the local demand for efficient heating energy, but also part of the overarching strategy for sustainable heat supply. If the project is successfully implemented, it could represent a model for the urgently needed transformation of heat supply in Germany.
The coming months will be crucial to achieve the ambitious targets at both local and national levels. The city administration is in close contact with residents and ensures that everyone affected is informed in a timely manner. It is all the more worthwhile to look at developments in the area of district heating, which are not only ecologically but also economically relevant.
