Grandma against right: Together for our democracy in Constance!
Konstanz, Deutschland - Something has happened in Constance in the past few months: The “Grandma's against Right” initiative has acted actively in the local and national political scene. Originally founded in Austria, inspired by the Spanish "Iaioflautas", around 70 local groups are now active in Germany, including in Constance. According to Seemoz.de , the group is committed to civil society and non-partisan participation, supported by a committed member base of around 50 active and just as many sympathizers.
The way the "Grandma's against Right" works is diverse: they organize events and demos, are committed to media and educational work and thus ensure visibility in public. One of the greatest successes is the impressive demo on February 8, 2025 in Constance, in which 12,000 people took to the streets for strong democracy. This event was organized together with the Alliance for Democracy, which was supposed to set a clear sign against the right. Despite occasional hostility, the motto remains unmistakable: strengthen democracy! Defend democracy!
variety of activities
Always at the pulse of the times are grandmas when it comes to planning their actions. A nationwide action day on February 8 is imminent, in which the initiative by vigils, star marches, human chains, flash mobs and even choir appearances want to motivate the citizens to participate in elections. GrandomasGrechts-nord.de pointing out that it is primarily about encouraging all democrats, only to vote for democratic parties.
At every weather, the grandmothers can be seen on the streets and squares - the determination of raising their voice is great and especially with regard to upcoming elections, the message is clear: the democratic achievements must be preserved!
research against right -wing extremism
Behind the commitment of the "Grandma against Right" is a growing concern about right -wing extremism in Germany. In order to counter this phenomenon, the Federal Government established a cabinet committee to combat right -wing extremism and racism in March 2020. As on the website of the BMBF , research on these topics is promoted to develop comprehensive recommendations for action.
The topics range from racism in the judiciary to the effects of prohibitions against right -wing extremists. In addition, numerous projects in the areas of anti -Semitism, everyday racism and institutional racism are examined. The promotion of young groups also strengthens the acute need for expertise in right-wing extremism and racism research as well as the visibility of research data.
The "Grandmas Against Right" are undoubtedly an essential part of this civil society movement, which not only focuses on the protection of democracy, but also actively fights the dangers of right -wing extremism.
