Celebrate the variety: Klaus Tschira Foundation appreciates a special birthday!
Freiburg im Breisgau, Deutschland - Today, the 30th birthday of the Klaus Tschira Foundation is celebrated in Mannheim, and the motto of the celebrations could not be more suitable: "Dilking diversity". As part of this anniversary, a six -part audio series is presented, which was designed by journalist Nils Birschmann. This series presents projects and people who are remarkable with the topic of diversity. The first episode that revolves around the project "The other school room" by Ute Schnebel is preferred. Here young people in Mannheim who have fallen from the school system are offered a new perspective. The project has been funded as a social and cultural commitment of the region since 2018.
In other episodes, those involved deal with topics such as the energy transition and the translation of natural sciences into understandable language. Tim Tröndle, engineer and plain text award winner, will subsequently address the hurdles of this transformation. The episode "University and Olives" with Nina Beier shows how science can be more understandable through creative formats, such as a scientific cooking show.
Plain text price recognizes excellent science communication
The Klaus Tschira Foundation is not only known for its efforts in the field of diversity, but also for the renowned plain text price, which has been awarded since 2021. This prize distinguishes researchers for their generally understandable communication of their doctoral theses. Last year, seven award winners were awarded that have presented significant progress in the natural sciences and computer science. Among them Dr. Jan Niklas Hansen (biology) and Dr. Sarah Theres Völkel (computer science) to name just a few. The award is associated with a prize money of 7,500 euros each and aims to strengthen the communication competence of researchers and increase awareness of science communication.
At the award ceremony on October 5, 2023 in the Mannheim Jazzclub Ella & Louis, climate researcher Christian Scharun will hold a science slam. All award-winning articles appear in plain text magazine and the event is transmitted hybrid. As far as the award of the award winners is concerned, the foundation has special attention to promoting dialogue between science and society.
science meets society
Thanks to the Klaus Tschira Foundation, numerous projects and initiatives can be implemented that make an important contribution to society. The plain text price and the audio series are actually just a few examples of how science communication is promoted and distributed. These initiatives are important not only to appreciate the work of the researchers, but also to give access to a broader public. The audio series "Diversity donation" can already be heard and shows impressively how artistically and innovative science can be conveyed.
