Quiet wine festivals at DRK: Safety and celebrations in Freiburg's surroundings!
The tranquil wine festivals in Merdingen and Eichstetten attracted numerous visitors last week and thanks to the commitment of the volunteers from [DRK]. The festivals began on September 8th and are a small highlight for the region every two years.
DRK chairman and mayor Michael Bruder reported that the celebrations in both places were happy. Especially in Eichstetten, it was possible to draw a calm balance with only three to five medical treatments per day. This meant that no transport to clinics was necessary, which certainly pleased not only the helpers but also the visitors.
Medical care and rescue control center
The situation was similar in Merdingen, although three people had to be transported to clinics there. In total, the DRK local association in Merdingen recorded six medical treatments at the local medical center. The rescue workers deployed on site were informed of emergencies by the rescue control center for the first time, which enabled priority and faster help.
A positive aspect that brightened the mood in the region was the fact that there was no particular focus on alcohol during the festivals. Instead, mainly minor cuts and exhaustion were treated, which shows that the visitors took good care of themselves and enjoyed the festival to the fullest.
Volunteers wanted
The positive experiences of the last wine festivals are also an incentive for the German Red Cross to recruit additional volunteer staff. Every hand is needed – be it in senior care, medical services at events or in clothing stores and soup kitchens. Those interested can get involved spontaneously, for a limited time or as an active member.
No previous knowledge is required; Training is offered to make it easier for new helpers to get started. Experienced helpers also have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and specialize so that they can actively help shape the Red Cross.
In summary, it can be said that both Merdingen and Eichstetten can look confidently into the next few years with their calm balance sheet. Volunteering is of central importance to ensure that such events can continue to be held safely and smoothly in the future.
