Government between Müllheim and Auggen: railway renewal completed!

Deutsche Bahn has reached an important milestone in the expansion of the Rhine Valley Railway: the track building between Müllheim and Auggen has now been completed. This was announced by the train on June 25, 2025. Susanne Müller, the head of the construction phase, underlined the importance of this structural completion because she heralds a new era for train traffic between Karlsruhe and Basel. The theses on the overhead line and the lead and security technology are now planned before test drives can begin in late summer. The official commissioning is planned for the timetable change in December 2025.

With the four -track expansion of the six -kilometer section 9.0, the attractiveness of the traffic connections in the region is significantly increased. As DB reports, the stops in Auggen and Müllheim are also part of the renovation plans that provide for a barrier -free design of the stations. The stop in Auggen has already been completed, while at the Müllheim train station there is still the western access and the station building in the completion.

freight traffic and noise protection

A central goal of this expansion is to increase train traffic for both goods and travelers. The entire quarter -circle expansion work on the Rheintalbahn in South Baden is around 23.6 kilometers. In order to protect the residents from noise, noise barriers are built along the route. It is also particularly worth mentioning that entering the route is life -threatening and strictly forbidden due to electrical overhead lines.

In parallel, Deutsche Bahn also plans other large infrastructure projects, including the modernization and conversion of the Bruchenbrücken traffic station in Wetterau. Two new tracks for freight transport are to be created here to ensure a stable 15-minute cycle for the S-Bahn line S 6 from Wetterau to Frankfurt. The local advisory board has already discussed the renovation plans, but there are concerns about the sufficient parking facilities and the loss of agricultural areas, as an affected farmer emphasizes.

investments in the rail infrastructure

Deutsche Bahn invests billions in the renewal of the rail infrastructure per year. 16.4 billion euros are planned for 2024 to stop the infrastructure decay and reduce the unpunctuality of the trains. 2,000 kilometers of tracks and 2,000 course are to be renewed in the coming years. These modernization measures also take place at numerous train stations and stops to offer passengers a better travel experience.

The linking of these projects shows that Deutsche Bahn pursues a clear plan to improve rail transport in Germany. While many are already prepared for the new connections between Karlsruhe and Basel, it remains to be seen how the other plans in Wetterau and other regions will progress.

For the entire region of South Baden and beyond, the track building between Müllheim and Auggen not only brings improved connection options, but also new perspectives for local transport and an increasing share of freight traffic. The good news for commuters and travelers: better connections soon!
