Next weekend, Schwäbisch Gmünd will once again be transformed into a colorful festival site when the city festival on June 13th and 14th, 2025 brings the city center to life. With high summer temperatures over 30 degrees, visitors can expect a diverse program of music, food and fun for the whole family. Visitors should definitely equip themselves with a sun hat, plenty of drinks and a good mood in order to be able to enjoy the hot days carefree, like Rems Newspaper reported.

The city festival traditionally opens with the butcher's ride, which begins on Friday at 6:45 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., Mayor Richard Arnold takes over the official opening and taps the first beer keg - this time in competition with Andouin Rambaud from Antibes. Last year the butcher's ride had to be canceled due to the death of honorary citizen Albert Scherrenbacher, so the anticipation for its opening is particularly great this year. Immediately after the butcher's ride, the tapping of the barrel will also take place on the Upper Market Square, as Schwäbisch Gmünd adds.

Diverse music and culinary offerings

Festival visitors can look forward to a tasty culinary offering that includes around 55 stands that offer everything from Swabian specialties to international delicacies. A total of eight stages are available for music lovers, presenting a colorful spectacle of live music of various styles. The stages are located in popular locations such as Oberer Marktplatz, Johannisplatz and Kornhausplatz, where there are cozy places to linger.

On Saturday the stage program will start at 10:00 a.m., while the “City Festival for Kids” from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Mühlbergle and Nikolausgasse area is a little highlight for the youngest. Face painting, a bouncy castle and a bungee trampoline ensure that children's eyes light up and they have a lot of fun. New is the cultural company Zappa, which mixes up the Mohrengässle with a DJ party and presents light and sound installations, such as the Gmünder Tagespost.

Practical information and safety measures

Security at the city festival is guaranteed by the police, the municipal security service and the Red Cross. To increase the safety of all participants, glass bottles and cans are prohibited on the festival grounds. Therefore, visitors should be prepared that bag checks may take place at the entrances. Mobility is also taken care of: from 12:45 a.m. there will be additional late lines in all directions on both festival days. The music will continue until midnight, while the stalls and bar will be open until 12:30 a.m. for revelers. The Südlicht and Zappa discotheques even offer entertainment until 5:00 a.m. after the city festival, confirms Schwäbisch Gmünd.
