Art and culture united: Gmünder delegation inspires in Cyprus!

On July 8, 2025, the sixth transnational meeting of the EU project NEXT took place in Limassol, Cyprus. The focus of the meeting was on the topic of “Art and Culture”, which not only offered an exciting opportunity for the participants, but also sent a strong signal for cultural cooperation in Europe. The delegation from Schwäbisch Gmünd, consisting of Anna Klamann, Elke Heer, Lukas Wieler, Eslem Akin and the student Zaina Afa Al Refai, was there and focused on the connection between art, humor and intercultural exchange.

In total, representatives from eight different countries came together to exchange ideas about the meaning of art and cultural expressions. Topics such as the role of memes in art were discussed, with young people in particular presenting their funny art memes and reflecting on their relevance to modern life. Schwäbisch Gmünd reports on lively discussions and practical workshops that met with a great response.

Insight into art

A Cypriot cartoon expert introduced the participants to the art of cartoon drawing, an area that particularly fascinated young people. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to capture their own perspectives of Limassol during a photo walk. Equipped with disposable cameras, they created creative images that reflected the diversity of the city.

A color therapy workshop allowed the young people to express their creativity by coloring black and white portraits. Not only were colors and their effects discussed, but the focus was also on individual moods and character portrayals. Such interactive formats contribute to strengthening cultural identity and supporting the understanding of one's own European identity, as the project pursues under the motto “United in Diversity”.

Intercultural exchange and culinary discoveries

The exchange between cultures was also not neglected in culinary form: typical national dishes and intercultural encounters enabled the participants to celebrate the cultural peculiarities of the different nations. Presenting cultural diversity in Europe also plays a central role, as the EU emphasizes. In particular, the promotion of the creative industries and the preservation of the common cultural heritage are directly related to such projects.

These efforts not only promote art, but also create new professional perspectives for artists and cultural workers in Europe. Initiatives such as the Creative Europe program highlight the importance of artistic expression in supporting regional and international exchange and job development.

Overall, the meeting in Limassol was not only a success for the participants, but also contributed to strengthening intercultural dialogue in Europe. With each such project, understanding of different cultures and their values grows, which is invaluable for the European community. This makes it clear once again: When it comes to art and culture, the opportunities lie in diversity.
