Cycling for a good cause: Tour Ginkgo supports sick children!
Sport will soon be back in Baden-Württemberg! The traditional Tour Ginkgo will take place from July 3rd to 5th, 2025 and will be celebrated like a cycling festival for a good cause. The initiative, which has been organized by Christiane Eichenhofer for 33 years, has set itself the goal of collecting donations for seriously ill children and premature babies. With more than 100 cyclists on the route, the event seems to be a complete success again. The route stretches between Aalen, Schwäbisch Gmünd and other places in the Ostalbkreis and Rems-Murr district, where the money collected goes directly to the Colorful Circles, which support facilities for sick children.
Christiane Eichenhofer, herself a leukemia survivor, founded the Christiane Eichenhofer Foundation in 1992 and is passionate about improving the lives of affected children. “Personal contacts with the institutions are very important,” she emphasizes. Over the years, several million euros have been raised through the Ginkgo Tour, and just last year an impressive check for 200,000 euros was handed over to the social-medical aftercare at the Olga Hospital at the Stuttgart Clinic. Eichenhofer took this opportunity to praise the excellent work of the team at Olga Hospital and the support from sponsors and donors who make such events possible.
Unique and Supportive
The Tour Ginkgo is not only a sporting challenge, but also an emotional experience. Eichenhofer reports on warm encounters, including from children who spontaneously made monetary donations. This shows how important it is to raise awareness of the needs of seriously ill children in the community. The tour is accompanied by 30 helpers and cyclists, so that the cyclists can travel safely in a group, even if there is no police escort this year.
The current focus is also on support from volunteers and personal contributions from participants, all of whom pull together to help children in need. Eichenhofer also paid particular attention to her voluntary work for refugees and her role on the supervisory board of the Waldhäuser village shop, which shows how diverse her mission is.
Other events to support children with cancer
Parallel to the Ginkgo tour, other campaigns for sick children also take place in the region. A benefit concert will be held in Aachen on July 20th, organized by Philipp Zeiler, a committed musician. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. This project also aims to support children with cancer. “The Heart Tour” calls for donations to be collected through bicycle tours and concerts and has already collected over 60,000 euros for various clubs.
As the Tour Ginkgo enters its next round, the importance of such events remains undisputed. They not only combine sporting activity with social responsibility, but also strengthen community spirit and awareness of the challenges that many families have to face every day. Let's be surprised at how much support this year's tour will bring!
