Longer waiting times? The new postal law causes confusion!
In the past few weeks, the postal delivery in the region has increasingly moved to the focus of the discussions. A reader from Wustenriet expressed his concern about the supposedly longer terms and wondered whether the new postal law plays a role in this. In fact, there are changes that influence the processes at Deutsche Post. Marc Mombauer, press spokesman for DHL Group, confirmed that the new law modified the delivery processes and that delayed delivery is possible. According to [Remszeitung] (https://www.remszeitung.de/lokales/ostalbkreis/schwaebisch-gmuend/Gefuehlt-laenere-ziebellezt-reues- Neues-Das-das-deutsche-post-dhl-mxdbadvpwi6h2pgmia4y.html), the changed postal law regulated that that 95% of the letters in Germany must now be delivered on the third working day after delivery, while 99% of the programs should reach the recipients on the fourth working day.
In a further step, however, Mombauer emphasizes that Deutsche Post's claim remains unchanged for short terms. The changes do not suddenly affect the letter periods, but also affect the sorting of the programs. Letters are now sorted by the delivery period and advertisements remain on the postal route for four days. The rule applies to registered mail that they should arrive one day after shipping.Legal changes at a glance
The new postal law was freshly decided by the Bundestag; It is the first reform in 25 years to modernize the processes and reduce the time pressure for the post office. As informed Tagesschau, consumers now have to wait longer for their letters. However, for hurrying remains the possibility of using more expensive prio letters that offer faster deliveries.
The six-day delivery will continue to exist in the future, which means that it will continue to be delivered six days a week. The question of higher postage costs is unclear. The last increase to 85 cents took place in 2022, the next one will be set to a maximum of one euro in 2025. In contrast, there are fewer government requirements in the area of parcel delivery, but there are new regulations for better working conditions, such as that packages over 20 kilos should be delivered by two deliverers in the future.
less complaints, but questions about efficiency
In the departure of the delivery of Deutsche Post, the employees report rare interruptions, mostly due to the end of work or increased shipping. Most recently, an increase to shipments at the beginning of May led to a delivery termination. Mombauer rejects the Wustrieter reader's assumption that a "thinnest staff" is being worked on. The delivery base points are sufficiently occupied and the employees work after working hours of 38.5 hours a week.
In addition, Deutsche Post emphasizes that the number of complaints can be classified as very low in just 0.003% of all programs. Nevertheless, the impression arises that the waiting time has increased for letters and packages, which may be related to the new processes in sorting and delivery. The progressive changes are now calling for many citizens: Interior questions about how the reform will affect postal services in the long term.
The reform of the postal law attracts great attention, not least because of the critical voices in the Bundestag. Voices like those of Hansjörg Durz (CDU/CSU) criticize the bureaucratic additional effort, while others, like Sebastian Roloff from the SPD, emphasize the health and climate protection aspects. It is clear that the post is in a redesign phase and the citizens: on the inside a vigilant eye will throw on the development of delivery.
