Schwäbisch Gmünd is facing an exciting weekend: Despite the announced temperatures of over 30 degrees that await us on Saturday and Sunday, the organizers have prepared a series of events that will transform the city into a true festival site. There is great anticipation and the city is living off the commitment of its citizens and clubs so far. The Rem newspaper highlights the most important events and highlights for the coming Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, June 21st, the AGV 1975 will be celebrated in a big way. The champagne breakfast starts at 7 a.m. on Kornhausplatz, followed by a celebratory parade at 8:30 a.m. A celebratory service will take place in the cathedral at 9:30 a.m. before the second parade at 11:15 a.m. attracts a large audience. The best part? Entry is free!
Sporty and culinary
In the meantime, the traditional lion market is taking place in the city center of Lorch, which opens on Friday, June 20th at 7 p.m. with a tapping of a barrel at Oriaplatz. Here, visitors can look forward to a colorful program with flea markets, a lion Olympics and an amusement park for the whole family - including reduced fares on Mondays. And entry is also free here.
The Baur Cross in Mutlangen awaits motorsport enthusiasts. Over 120 drivers will compete on the track in eight classes on Saturday and Sunday. Training is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a race party with live music from 8 p.m. It's going to be exciting! There is no entry fee here either. The qualifying runs start on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Classic cars and more
An Audi and classic car meeting will also take place in Heubach on Saturday and Sunday. Around 100 Audi fans are expected here on Saturday, while on Sunday the owners of many classic cars will present their vehicles. The event attracts visitors with the charm of historic automobiles and always surprises with special delicacies from vehicle history. Entry here is also free.
But that's not all! The town festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd has developed into a highlight in the event calendar for years. Over 50 clubs ask all guests to experience the city center to the fullest. Live music, culinary delicacies from all over the world and all sorts of hands-on activities create an atmosphere that invites you to celebrate and linger. The City of Schwäbisch Gmünd highlights that the butcher ride and the traditional tapping of the barrel on the Upper Market Square will open the festival.
The festivities are rounded off with a wide range of music and dance performances for the whole family. This makes Saturday an experience for young and old that can be celebrated until late at night.
If you want to take part in all of these events, you should be prepared for correspondingly high temperatures: on Saturday we can expect highs of 28 degrees and on Sunday even 33 degrees.
