Boy on bike path in Aalen - driver escapes, police are looking for witnesses!
Aalen, Deutschland - A disturbing incident occurred on June 12, 2025 in Aalen. Around 10:30 a.m., a 13-year-old boy, who was traveling on the bike path on Bischof-Fischer-Strasse, was hit by a car. The accident happened when a white car drove out of an underground garage exit and collided with the boy. The severe fall led to injuries to the young cyclist, while the driver of the car left the scene of the accident without taking care of the injured boy. He hurriedly fled, and now the police are looking for witnesses who can provide information about the incident. Information can be reported to the police station Aalen on the phone number (07361) 5240.
The incident is not isolated. Similar accidents with drivers have increased in recent years, as an example from the Segeberg district shows. There, a 13-year-old boy was also slightly injured in Lentföhrden when a stranger went with a silver car and then turned out of the dust. Such incidents illustrate the worrying phenomenon of drivers that often remain depressed and let the young people affected down. Here, too, the driver was not determined, the police have taken up the investigation and are looking for witnesses.
driver flight: serious consequences
The unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident has not only moral, but also legal consequences. In accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code (§ 142 StGB), driver flight can be punished with money or prison terms. In the case of personal injury, as they are in the case of the boy in Aalen and the other young people from Segeberg, those responsible even threaten privileged punishments, including a possible withdrawal of the driving license over several months.
Almost 1,800 of such cases were counted in 2018 alone in the Segeberg district, with a large part of which affected minor accidents. The police measures to clarify these incidents are primarily important. Affected witnesses are urgently asked to report because their statements can be decisive for the investigation.
Intentively, judicial organs in Germany even plan changes that could make it possible to report accidents online. Nevertheless, driver's escape remains punishable and is sharply persecuted. The case law provides significantly tougher measures in severe personal injury, right down to prison terms of serious offenses.
In Aalen and around the region, the authorities strive to increase the safety in road traffic and to promote responsibility. In short, driver's flight is not a cavalier offense, and the police appealed to all drivers to stay at the point after an accident and take care of the injured.
