Jordanian student inspires Aalen with innovative ideas and visions!
Omar Quasim AL-Maaitah, an ambitious student from Jordan, is currently bringing a breath of fresh air to Aalen University. Inspired by the television series “Westworld”, he decided to major in mechatronics. “It is an area that combines technology and creativity,” explains the 21-year-old enthusiastically. Before his stay in Germany, he studied at the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Mushaquar, an institution that maintains a strategic partnership with Aalen University and is based on the German university model. Due to this cooperation, GJU students spend a year in Germany, divided between a university and practical placements in companies, which particularly promotes practical orientation. According to schwaebische.de, AL-Maaitah appreciates the infrastructure and the opportunities that Aalen offers him.
He showed interest in technical solutions early on. At just 12 years old, he developed a “smart window” to improve air quality in Jordanian households. This shows his great interest in electronics and innovative technologies. His commitment was also impressive: as vice president of the Arab Children's Parliament and founder of the “Club for Politics and Dialogue” at the GJU, he actively supported young people. In Aalen he now finds the quiet atmosphere that he likes compared to big cities. He is particularly looking forward to his brother's visit, which will bring him a touch of home. Despite the initial challenges caused by bureaucratic hurdles and language barriers, he has now settled in well, not least thanks to the support of the International Center at Aalen University.
Studying in Aalen and outlook
Overall, AL-Maaitah plans to do his master's degree and perhaps even his doctorate in Germany, possibly in Aalen. Should he take this direction, he will be working in an area that is becoming increasingly important. Mechatronics combines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, which are in-demand skills today. The master’s program “Mechatronics – Smart Technologies” is aimed at graduates of engineering and natural sciences courses. Applicants must have at least 75 ECTS points in order to be admitted, with the decision on eligibility being made by the program director. Further information can be found at mci.edu.
The bachelor's degree program in Mechatronics at Karlshochschule offers practical training that includes the analysis, design and development of complex technical systems. Students can specialize in three different profiles: robotics, drive technology and medical technology. Each of these subjects opens up specific career paths in industry and thus promotes the career prospects of graduates. It is a training course that ends with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Sc.) and prepares students for current challenges in technology. More information can be found at karlshochschule.de.
Finally, AL-Maaitah also encourages students from Aalen to consider spending a semester abroad in Jordan in order to experience the cultural and natural beauties of their home country for themselves. The interaction of practical training and intercultural exchange could enrich not only personal but also professional development.
