The anticipation in Biberach is great: on Sunday evening the 47th Film Festival will open its doors and feature a glittering awards ceremony. This year the organizers can look forward to prize money totaling 26,000 euros, which will be awarded in eight categories. The Golden Beaver will be awarded for the best feature film, while five juries made up of experts will award further awards in the areas of television films, short films, medium-length films, documentaries and debuts. Two further juries, consisting of film amateurs, are responsible for the student and audience beavers. As SWR reports, Nastassja Kinski, known among others for “Paris Texas,” will be awarded the Silver Beaver as an honorary award for her services to German film.
What makes the Biberach Film Festival so special? Since 1979, they have developed from humble beginnings with a few hundred visitors into a respectable crowd puller. This year, after the Corona years, the organizers are expecting five-digit visitor numbers again. The close connection between filmmakers and audiences is a unique hallmark of the festival. In addition to the award ceremony, the highlights also include an evening party and exciting film talks in the festival hotel. A network meeting for filmmakers is organized by Philipp Käßbohrer, an experienced film and television producer. The current developments in the industry are the focus here.

The discussion about the AI-generated film “Imperia”, led by director and producer Marcel Barsotti, will be particularly interesting. He takes a look at the opportunities and risks that artificial intelligence brings with it for the film industry. Douglas Wolfsperger, the artistic director of the Biberach Film Festival, is enthusiastic about the creativity of young filmmakers and says that it is these fresh influences that enrich the festival.
