Bad Schussenried celebrates championship: A new chapter begins!
A really big football spectacle was about to take place in Bad Schussenried! FV Bad Schussenried recently celebrated its fourth championship title in the district league since 2009. How Schwäbische.de reports, the team under the leadership of coach Martin Schmid achieved remarkable achievements that led to winning the championship. In particular, the decisive penalty goal in injury time during a game against Türkspor Biberach was a turning point, without which the title would probably not have been possible.
The 2024/25 season started in the new format with 20 clubs from the old districts of Riß and Donau/Sigmaringen. Bad Schussenried showed itself strongly from the start in the West qualifying relay. On the way to the championship round, the team impressively won five out of five games before the winter break and thus secured their place at the top.
The crowning achievement was the 7-2 win against Steinhausen, which secured the title. With a goal difference of 55:20 in the championship round, the team presented an impressive record. Felix Bonelli particularly stood out and was crowned top scorer in the promotion round with 24 goals.
Team spirit and individual strength
Coach Schmid praised the unified teamwork and the individual skills of the players in his comments. Patrick Baur, who acts as assistant coach and sports director, also delivered a strong performance and scored 11 goals himself in the season. His support for Schmid was immense, as he praised the coach's sense of consistency and understanding of tactics. Schmid himself is now also a champion in his second season as coach.
But the spectator numbers also speak for themselves: around 1,500 fans came to the Zellersee Stadium for the derby against Muttensweiler/Hochdorf and passionately cheered on the team. A look into the future shows that Bad Schussenried is already preparing for the new challenge in the state league. Here the players expect completely different requirements that they want to accept.
On the way to the national league
How FuPa.net reports, the team is optimistic about the coming period. Three new recruits are about to graduate and will be accompanied by eight youth players who are taking the step to become active players. Training begins on July 4th and the first matchday in the national league is scheduled for August 9th. The WFV Cup is also held two weeks in advance. It remains exciting and the anticipation of the next challenges is palpable.
In the current second half of the season, Bad Schussenried is showing strength again. Recently they defeated SW Donau 6:1, which secured the team second place in the table. The gap to league leaders Ehingen is six points with one game less. Ralf Haug, Sport Aktive's board member, emphasized that the upcoming games against Ehingen and Öpfingen will point the way for the championship.
The championship races in this exciting season are open. Teams like TSG Ehingen, FV Bad Schussenried, SW Donau and SG Öpfingen are fighting for the top spot. It remains to be seen what sporting highlights the fans can look forward to in the next few weeks!
