Laupheim celebrates: from stars to the music of Star Wars!

Laupheim, Deutschland - Today, on June 29, 2025, something was really going on in Laupheim. In the cultural center, music from "Star Wars" sounded through the halls, played by the talented city chapel under the direction of Alex Keil. This festival program was the start of the event "Home Lesses 2025", which came up with a colorful mix of celebrations and dancing. The atmosphere was great and the community not only celebrated the music, but also the impressive history of the Volkssternwarte Laupheim.

The Volkssternwarte was founded exactly 50 years ago. An important milestone that visitors duly appreciated with impressive pictures on canvas and a speech by Mayor Ingo Bergmann. The latter also reported on current developments in Laupheim, such as the acquisition of a new clinic site and the introduction of city traffic with e-buses, which is due to drive every 30 minutes from July 1st. Another exciting topic was the future of the town hall, about which a decision is to be made this year.

a piece of heaven: the small planet Laupheim

Did you know that Laupheim also has its own small planet? The asteroid "7167", discovered by Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker on the Mount Palomar in the USA, has the name of the city since May 4, 1999. Laupheim is not only known for its astronomical activities, but is also in a galactic connection! The planetoid with a diameter of about 23 kilometers circles the sun at a distance of 469.6 million kilometers and needs five and a half years. It is a fascinating detail that illustrates the connection between the city and the universe. For the first time, the Volkssternwarte Laupheim managed to photograph this small planet on February 20, 2004-a truly remarkable success for the astronomy hobbyists!

The founders of the Volkssternwarte, including Robert Clausen and six other passionate astronomers, have undergoing impressive development from a simple dome in high school to an international center for amateur astronomy. From 1978 to 1992, trade fairs ensured that Laupheim became known in the astronomical scene, and in 1990 a modern middle planetarium was opened, which was operated by volunteers. Rolf Stökler also announced the construction of a "forum of astronomy", which will certainly contribute to further highlights in the history of the Volkssternwarte.

celebrate and look into the future

In addition to all the exciting stories and projects, a look into the future was also taken: the time capsule, which is filled with wishes, will be opened in 2075 for the 100th anniversary of the Volkssternwarte. A beautiful custom that brings together the community and shows the connecting character of astronomy.

Another highlight of the festival was the contribution of the Baltringer bunch of the Singers' Association, which stimulated with its acting about the peasant war and German democracy to think. The sociable final then formed the jointly sung children's festival song "In the sky the sun shines", which encouraged the entire hall to sing along and spread a feeling of community and joy.

This shows everything: Laupheim not only has a rich historical and cultural past, but also promising plans for the future. The combination of history and modern technology, music and astronomy makes the city a unique place.

For those interested in astronomy, there are also large contact points, such as the Association of Sternfreunde e.V., which with over 4000 members is the largest community in German-speaking countries and always aims to promote folk education in astronomy.

Laupheim not only celebrates itself, but also its fascinating connections to the universe - and that is really worth a festive occasion!
