Slippery warning! Drivers in the Hohenlohe district must be careful

Drivers in Baden-Württemberg, especially in the Heilbronn region and the Hohenlohe district, should be particularly careful on the roads on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2025. The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of slippery conditions that could last until 9 a.m. Although temperatures can drop to as low as minus four degrees, slippery conditions can be expected even at slightly plus temperatures. A clear message for everyone traveling in the region: “The roads could be as slippery as a baby elephant,” said a DWD spokesman.

The first snowflakes fell in the region on Monday, adding to the wintry conditions. The maximum temperatures for today are estimated to be around four degrees. But don't worry: a lot of sun is expected during the day, after the fog has cleared up. The DWD is also providing information about possible snowfall in the lowlands in the coming days, which could further complicate the situation. Even though we enjoy these white splendors, we should remain vigilant because the weather brings with it polar cold air that affects road conditions.

Winter weather conditions

According to the latest information from wetterfähren.de, cold, wet and early winter conditions prevail in southern Germany. Wind is also an issue, especially on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony, where brisk winds with stiff to stormy gusts (7-8 Bft) are expected. Stormy gusts of up to 9 Bft could even occur on the Brocken. Our region, it seems, is preparing for frosty temperatures and a sprinkling of snow, so careful use of the roads is an absolute must.

However, the risk of slippery roads is not just limited to the current road conditions. Light permanent frost is also to be expected in the higher mountain areas, which makes the road conditions even more challenging. Light to moderate frost is forecast throughout southern and central Germany for Wednesday night, which further increases the risk of slippery conditions caused by freezing moisture.

The look ahead

In the coming days, light snowfall is expected in the higher elevations of the western and northern low mountain ranges. Weather experts expect new snow amounts of up to 5 cm, locally even up to 10 cm in certain areas. This means that drivers in the region should not let up on their caution: winter road conditions will certainly keep us on our toes for some time to come.
