Wind power in Waiblingen: debate about new priority area DM 35 sparked!

Waiblingen, Deutschland - After a long absence, the wind power location Buocher Höhe in Waiblingen is back on the agenda. This area, which had been on hold due to political and environmental hurdles for a year, has now been determined as a new priority area with the name "RM 35". But the debate is picking up again, as ZVW

A little review: In autumn 2018, the Buocher Höhe was deleted from the list of priority areas. This happened under the then Mayor Andreas Hesky, who repeatedly campaigned for wind power. Today, as chairman of the Free Voters' faction, he is still an important player in the regional assembly. As Krzbb reported, he assessed the resumption of Buocher Höhe to the priority areas as a "stage win".

environmental concerns and neighboring municipalities

The reacequisition of the area, however, brings with it some challenges. Even if the Lower Nature Conservation Authority does not exclude an expulsion despite the protection of species protection law, there are still numerous statements by citizens and other interested parties who have to be presented to the regional councils. It remains to be seen how the neighboring town of Korb reacts to this development. Korb plans to object to the newly defined area, which could continue to cheer on the discussion about wind power at Buocher Höhe.

In addition, a central decision will be made in autumn 2023: The regional assembly will deal with the priority areas and determine which areas are included in the regional plan. The exact date is still unclear, but both October, November and December are in the room. After this decision, Waiblingen must take additional measures regarding wind power.

future steps

It is not expected that further wind measurements are necessary to determine concrete locations for wind turbines. Nevertheless, detailed examinations are required to clarify the maximum number of wind turbines in the Buocher Höhe area. The city also plans to discuss neighboring municipalities if the Buocher Höhe is actually included in the regional plan. The anticipation for environmentally friendly energies is inevitable.

In addition, wind energy is not only important for local issues, but is also in the context of nature conservation. Information and guidelines on wind power and nature conservation can be read on the website of Federal Environment Ministry

the matter remains exciting and will certainly still provide a conversation in the region.
