Landtag President Aras: Memorial trip to right -wing extremism
Vaihingen/Enz, Deutschland - On July 17th and 18th, 2025, the Landtag President Muhterem Aras (Greens) will be on an important memorial trip through Baden-Württemberg. This special initiative is devoted not only to the memory of the darkest chapters of our history, but also the determined fight against the strengthening right-wing extremism, such as ludwigsburg24
The trip leads to several important stations in the districts of Böblingen, Ludwigsburg, Schwäbisch-Hall and Main-Tauber. Among other things, the concentration camp memorials in Leonberg and Vaihingen/Enz are on the program. Here, thousands of prisoners had to do forced labor during the Nazi era, which demanded countless lives. In Leonberg, around 5,000 prisoners from 24 nations in the Engelberg tunnel were forced to work, while around 2,500 prisoners worked in Vaihingen/Enz - around 1,600 of them died tragic.

A highlight of the trip will be the evening event in the Peterskirche in Vaihingen/Enz. Mayor Uwe Skrzypek will open the event, followed by a greeting from Landtag President Aras. Under the motto "Democracy and remembering - current challenges", political scientist Rolf Frankenberger, managing director of the Institute for Right -wing extremism research (IREX), will give a specialist lecture. The evening is musically framed by students from the local youth music school.
On the second day, Aras brings the experiences and knowledge of the first stage to the synagogue of Michelbach/Lücke, the memorial "The Men of Brettheim" in Rot am See-Brettheim and the Jewish Museum in Creglingen. The conversations with the volunteers of the memorials are all about commemoration and the Enlightenment, as well as the official communication.
This journey, which takes place for the seventh time, is organized by the state administration and the State Center for Political Education. The topics of right -wing extremist currents and the importance of memory work are more current than ever. "It is time to deal with the dark chapters of our history and to stay vigilant," said Aras. The exchange with the memorials must not be in the background in these eventful times, since the basis for a tolerant society is laid here.
With constant commitment and the support of local MPs, the Muhterem Aras memorial trip goes into the next round as a significant step towards an active culture of remembrance in Baden-Württemberg. Together we "shake up" - as Aras put it - and face the challenges of the present with a clear view of history.
