Large wind farm in Hemmingen: a milestone for the energy transition!

What is brewing there north of Hemmingen? A regional wind power project that attracts a lot of attention. Uhl Windkraft from Ellwangen plans to build a wind farm with four wind turbines in the Ludwigsburg district. These systems should not only strengthen the local energy supply, but also contribute to achieving higher -level climate goals. For the first time, the company ventures into this region with such a project, and the anticipation is great, since only a wind turbine from 2012 has been operated in Ingersheim.

The wind farm is built on an area of 100 hectares, which was previously set to 145 hectares. This does not get the project developer out of the socket, because the hub height of the planned wind turbines is 179 meters and the total performance is 27.2 megawatts. This could create 12 to 13 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, enough for around 3400 households. In fact, the wind farm is an important step towards the community of energy, and both the mayor and the municipal councils support the project enthusiastically. The application for approval should be submitted by mid -2025, with a possible commissioning until the middle of 2028.

environmental protection and challenges

But so much euphoria also has a drop of bitterness. Critics have concerns about the proximity of the planned location on rest areas of rare migratory birds, in particular the golden rain. Expert reports on nature conservation have already been drawn up for the implementation of the project in order to take into account the rest behavior of these birds. The wind turbines are also built near garden houses, with minimum distances of 800 meters to residential buildings that are prescribed for many wind power projects.

The planned wind turbines are to be operated with a volume of 40 decibels, which corresponds to a quiet conversation. The discussion about the wind farm shows how important the balance between the use of renewable energies and the protection of the environment is important. After all, there are a total of 20 priority areas for wind power in the Ludwigsburg region, even 87 nationwide, so that there is still a lot of potential here.

climate goals in view

The expansion of wind energy in Hemmingen is also necessary for the achievement of global energy transition goals. The city relies on a land use plan that only allows wind turbines on certain areas. The existing wind turbines in Hemmingen are currently occupied, but the new wind farm project could drive the locally defined climate neutral goals.

With a view to the federal political developments, such as the new coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD, the expansion of renewable energies is strongly promoted in Germany. In this context, planning for wind projects is crucial in order to achieve the goals of climate neutrality by 2045. Not only is the necessary infrastructure further developed, but also measures to reduce energy prices and to optimize the approval process.

The local population in Hemmingen can look optimistically into the future, because the wind farm means a step towards sustainability and environmental awareness. The coming years will show how well the plans can be realized and what positive effects they will have on the community and the region.
