Friendship through sport: Geislingen and Montceau-les-Mînes celebrate youth!

Geislingen an der Steige, Deutschland - On the first weekend in July, a joyful reunion took place in Montceau-les-Mînes between the delegation from Geislingen an der Steige and the French city. Holger Schrag, a representative of the Geislingen city administration, brought personal greetings from Mayor Ignazio Ceffalia and emphasized the importance of a lively exchange, especially for the young people of the two cities. The aim of the visit was to enliven the long-term friendship and to strengthen the European thoughts through sports and encounter, such as [Filstalexpress] (https://filsta lexpress.de/lokalnachrichten/191641/geislingen-er-steigen-und-montceau-les-staichen-ihre------------------staedtetiverte/) reported.

The hosts were presented with gifts that also went to Mayor Marie-Claude Jarrot and the members of their local council. The young representatives of the children's community council and youth council were particularly pleased with the specially made T-shirts that they proudly wore.

a weekend full of action

The center of the joint activities was a contest in the Montceau-les-Mînes skate park. Here the young people competed in various disciplines: Linus Schrag secured first place in the BMX, while Luca Köpf took second place. Even in the scooter competition, the two could not leave each other and ended the race in the placements one and two. Katrin Kilian won the skateboarders, which also raised the mood. The competition was peppered with spectacular demonstrations by a top star from the French BMX scene, and a large jumping pillow provided further pleasure, as can be seen on outdooractive.

The motto of the event "On a nice, together time, on our city partnership, on Europe!" made the importance of the encounters clear. In autumn there will be the next opportunity when the young people from Montceau-les-Mînes are invited to Geislingen an der Steigen to share further joint experiences in the skate park.

funding and future

city twinning such as those between Geislingen and Montceau-les-Mînes are supported by interesting programs of the European Union. These promote innovative projects with added value for everyone involved. As also explained on rgre.de, many municipalities acquire funding to support the exchange between young people. A special initiative is the Franco-German voluntary service, which offers young people the opportunity to spend a voluntary year in the partner municipality. This not only strengthens the relationship between the communities, but also offers young people valuable experiences.

The exchange between Geislingen an der Steige and Montceau-les-Mînes thus impressively shows how city twinning can also promote local engagement and European integration. The youngsters are the focus and contribute to strengthening this friendship with their sporting talents.
